Chapter 25

Priscilla

That kiss nearly made the words ‘I love you’ fall from my tongue.

With his lips on mine and his arms encircling me, I felt the depth of his love resonate with every move of his mouth and every stroke of his hands.

It wasn’t just a physical gesture; it was a declaration of his tenderness, devotion, and the passion he holds for me in his heart.

I sensed the warmth of his affection enveloping me. He somehow soothed all the doubts and fears I’ve had with a kiss.

If every kiss is like that one, I’ll never doubt his unwavering love for me.

I should have thanked him. He makes me feel alive—as if life before him didn’t exist. In his arms, there’s no question that I am treasured by my mate.

I know destiny meant for us to find each other. If he’d asked me to never leave him again, I’d say yes without hesitation.

We walk through the labyrinth hand in hand.

“How was your week?” he asks while we make our journey.

“Mostly good.”

“Why only mostly?”

“It’s nothing.” I regret the slip of honesty immediately.

He stops and turns me toward him. “There’s nothing about you that isn’t important to me.”

I sigh. “There’s just this new teacher. He won’t take no for an answer.”

Anjal practically growls. “Do I need to introduce myself to him?”

I shake my head. “Lisabeth is keeping an on eye on him. If he gets out of line, she’ll find a reason to fire him.”

He nods.

“Anything good happen this week?” we continue toward our destination.

“Other than that kiss back there? Nothing comes to mind.”

“That’s just the first of many,” Anjal promises with a squeeze of my fingers.

I forgot how beautiful the landscape inside the heart of the labyrinth was. I stop. He turns to look at me with a question in his eyes.

“Can I have a minute to soak it up? I didn’t take the time to appreciate this place the last time I was here.”

He kisses my forehead.

“How did you find this place? Or did your people build it from scratch?”

“Our herd needed a home and Helios provided. He always does.”

“That’s vague.”

“It’s the only answer they give me when I ask,” he says with a shrug. “I’ve always wondered myself.”

“What happens when y’all run out of space?”

“That I do know. For example, when our children want to build a home of their own, they’ll walk to the edge of their choice in the labyrinth and the area will expand to accommodate the house they build.”

Children. I hadn’t considered motherhood before seeing Dianna, and not really much after. But I know I want to hold a child of our love in my arms. Not right away, but one day.

Anjal leads us to another home. “Who lives here?” I ask.

“My parents and three of my sisters.”

“Am I just meeting the five of them?”

“No. Everyone important to me is behind this door.”

“Okay, I’m ready.”

We stand before a door that stands tall and sturdy with its rich, mahogany finish. Something about it gives a welcoming feeling,
